In a move that has become something of an annual ritual, auDA — the body responsible for administering Australia’s .au domain name space — is once again lifting the wholesale price of .au domain name licences. Effective 1 October 2025, the annual wholesale cost will rise from AUD $8.45 to $8.64 (excluding GST).
While the increase is modest — just 19 cents — it marks the second consecutive year of price hikes by auDA. Still, the organisation is quick to point out that the new fee remains lower than those of many other comparable Top Level Domains (TLDs). That’s a small comfort for registrants watching costs inch upward, even in one of the more affordable corners of the internet.
According to auDA, the price change will help support continued investment in the security, stability and operation of the .au domain system. As a self-funded not-for-profit, auDA says this funding model ensures it can maintain critical infrastructure while meeting its obligations under government oversight.
The organisation says it will continue to review the wholesale price annually. It also reaffirmed its broader mission: to deliver a secure and reliable domain system, and to support an internet that remains open, free, and interoperable — for the benefit of all Australians.
While the increase is relatively minor, domain registrants and businesses may want to keep an eye on future adjustments. Even small changes can add up, especially for large portfolios. Still, for now, .au remains one of the more affordable and trusted options in the global domain landscape.
